Robert L. Rock, M.D.Dr. Rock is board certified in both General Ophthalmology and Cataract/IOL Eye Surgery. After special post-residency training in New York, he joined Dr. Hardy Thompson in Austin in 1963, on West 19th Street, until they moved to the current Burnet Road location in 1978. Dr. Rock is especially interested in cataract surgery, corneal transplant surgery, and refractive surgery. He teaches these techniques at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he is currently a Clinical Professor in the Ophthalmology Department, and where he has taught since 1963. Dr. Rock is interested in volunteer eye surgery projects in the Third World, where he has directed projects in over a dozen countries, including working with Dr. Albert Schweitzer in Lamberene, Gabon, West Equatorial Africa. He is a frequent speaker at churches, men's clubs, volunteer groups, and other organizations. He has performed over 25,000 eye operations here and abroad. Educational Background
